The Patagonia has been developed in close cooperation between Helsport and Børge Ousland, and is based on Børge's experiences from 30 years of expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Security is always critical on such trips, and this tent has all the necessary details for safe and easy handling during the worst conditions.
The aerodynamic construction is especially important in the wind. The tent is not pushed down in strong winds, but instead the windflows over the tent roof. In addition to increased stability, this construction also saves weight, because the tent uses shorter poles and less fabric. The positioning of the poles, as well as their angle, also makes the tent extra suitable in extreme winds. Good height ensures comfort when you get weather bound. Patagonia withstands extreme conditions, particularly the wind, and the strength of the tent is increased further by using double poles. There is room in all pole-channels, and a double pole-cup is standard. This tent really is optimal for winter-use; every single detail is developed to make sure things work as easily and functionally as possible, and is manageable with mittens. The stormflaps with integrated peg loops are in one piece around the tent. This reduces the pitching time especially during windy conditions. The peg loops are wide and not too long, perfect for pitching the tent with skis. Ventilation is an important aspect on all tents. The Patagonia has two angled vents on both sides that are placed high enough so they do not pack up with snow, despite windy conditions. In addition there are two centered vents placed high in the front and rear. Together these four vents create a safe and flexible venting system. Helsport Rainguard® Pro: For the rest of the PRO and X-TREM tents we have developed a solid outer tent fabric. It is over eight times more durable and tear resistant than normal fabrics, woven with the nest thread and coated on both sides with silicone. Naturally this fabric also features strong resistance to UV-rays and excellent fabric stability under changing weather and temperature conditions. It has a water column of minimum 3000 mm. This fabric is also used as a ground sheet for the SuperLight tents. Helsport Airflow Pro: The fabrics used in our PRO and X-TREM tents, are light and strong 30D polyester fabrics. The ripstop increases the tear strength and the fabrics are highly water repellent and breathable. Helsport Rainguard®: Ground sheets are a critical component of all tents, because they are exposed to additional wear and tear. Helsport ́s ground sheets have a great durability and tear strength. The surface facing down to the ground is coated with silicone, which prevents water penetration and reduces drying time.
